How To Care For Oily Skin

Oily skin is caused when the sebaceous glands in the skin make excess sebum. The waxy oily substance that protects the skin is called sebum. This material sebum is useful in keeping the skin healthy but when it becomes so much it causes oily skin which in turn causes acne. We would share with you natural ways to reduce the symptoms of oily skin.

Regular Wash

Wash with warm water and a mild soap. Also avoid soaps with fragrances, added moisturizers or harsh chemical which can irritate or dry out the skin in turn creating more sebum.

Toner

Use toners like witch hazel. Witch hazel has high tannin content which helps as an anti-inflammatory. Many people with oily skin use witch hazel as their only toner. Please be advised to check with your dermatologist before settling on any toner.

Facial Masks

Facial Masks which contain clay, honey or oatmeal are great for the skin. Masks which contain minerals like smectite or bentonite absorb oils, reducing skin shininess and sebum levels. Also honey is known to have antibacterial properties.

Moisturizer

Advising one with an oily skin to use moisturizer obviously doesn’t sound right but there are moisturizers made specifically for oily skins with benefits. For people with really oily skin, watch out for oil-free moisturizers. Some studies prove that Aloe Vera is a great moisturizer for oily skin and skin prone to acne.

Gently Dab

Do not pull on skin when drying with a face towel. Gently pat dry. Pulling down on the skin causes it to produce more sebum.
